Student Testimonials
After my first semester at Calvary Schools of Holland I asked my students to evaluate me in the same way that I had my students in my student teaching placement do (see below). I asked them to write down things I had done well, things I can improve on, and something that they enjoyed doing in the past semester. Here are a few responses from those evaluations. It is important to note that for the most part these responses are unedited, except for some minor spelling and grammatical errors that were fixed.
"Teaching and making people feel good about themselves. And you keep band interesting."
"She listens to our opinions on music, takes suggestions (Lord of the Rings)."
"She doesn't lose her temper when people are annoying."
"Super kind to us, and let the band improve and grow up a lot."
"Run through the songs then talk about it together, it can be
nice and let us improve together."
"You manage the class well."
"Teaches the right way to play instruments."
At the end of my student teaching placement at Northview High School, I asked the students to evaluate me by writing down the same things I listed above. Again, it is important to note that for the most part these responses are unedited, except for some minor spelling and grammatical errors that were fixed.
"You've done a lot of good things here at Northview. But you did a great job at interacting/connecting
with your students."
"You are a very good conductor. You know what you are talking about and take pride in that.
Keep that up, students respect adults who they can look up to."
"I have LOVED our practices! I am so glad you were here to help me out in these
last difficult 8 weeks. Thanks for the great advice during tough times! Really was helpful!"
"Ms. Johnson is really optimistic and encouraging about our potential, which is really
important, especially to me because I tend to be discouraged when I mess up. So having
someone who is positively encouraging is awesome!"
"I like the way she communicates, how she relays what we're going to do, or how to improve."
"You seem so confident and in control."
"Your attitude is always a mood lifter."
"Ms. Johnson is overall a very very good conductor. She is easy to follow and shows dynamics well. She also catches every tiny thing that can be improved."

"Ms. J was always really excited to start class and had a lot of enthusiasm."
"Ms. Johnson has done a good job keeping it fun while still
getting stuff done. You were also really patient."
"There was always something good everyday."
"You aren't always serious or yelling. Your personality is great
and you know how to stay on track."
"You worked good (well) with us, by having fun but teaching us something
different each day. You helped us a lot and help us improve."
"Ms. Johnson has done a great job with patience and working well under pressure."
"I liked when she asked if anything good happened to us."
"She wasn't a pushover like other student teachers. She was likable."
"I loved the concerts because you always have the biggest smile on your face."
"Ms. Johnson has been very patient with us. She never yells.
She always treats us like adults :)"

"You do a very good job keeping the class engaging and lively."
"You're patient and incredibly kind/caring. You care about our improvement."
"You've been a kind, positive teacher. Most teachers don't focus on the positives,
they only focus on what can be improved."
"Interacts on a personal level with students."
"You've taught me to learn all my actual meanings to the music;
how to make music move when the notes aren't interesting."
"One thing Ms. Johnson is good at is keeping her cool when the crowd gets rowdy."
"Ms. J paid attention to all sections of the band."
