Lesson Plans

Here is a lesson I taught during the third week of my high school student teaching placement. I led a flute, oboe, and clarinet sectional on the first movement of the piece Paris Sketches by Martin Ellerby. The students had only worked on this movement once before the sectional so there was quite a bit of work to do. The students seemed to enjoy the piece once we actually started making music with it!

To the left is a link to a lesson I taught during my high school student teaching placement. I led a full band rehearsal with my freshman band on a piece called Two Irish Sketches by Dave Black. I had been working with the students quite a bit on this piece but there were still some issues that needed to be addressed.

Unit Plans

To the right is the unit plan I wrote during my elementary music student teaching placement. I taught my fifth graders about musical form. We looked at a variety of instrumental pieces, such as William Tell Overture. My students were given many ways to learn about the piece including listening maps and cut out letters to represent different themes.

Here is a unit plan that I wrote with one of my peers for an education class that I took during my senior year of college. One thing that I am passionate about is not just leading musical rehearsal when teaching, but also teaching music history and theory. These are both topics that students need knowledge of to fully grasp the music that they are playing. Because of this, I decided to write about early church music, which is the start of musical notation as we know it.
