Philosophy of Education

Here is a link to my philosophy statement. The single most important thing I care about in my teaching is that students see that I value them as a person. Because of this, they will be more willing to come to school and learn.

Behavior Management Plan

The main point of my behavior management plan is putting responsibility back onto the students. I am a huge Love & Logic fan and ideally would use this in every aspect of my teaching. I like to give my students choices - asking them what they would like to do out of two options. This could be as small as what warm-up they would like to do first, or as large as changing a bad behavior or leaving class. By doing this, I am giving the students the responsibility and power to choose what they want to do, yet I am still in control of the situation.

At the school where I am student taught, there was a district-wide behavior management policy. Each school had a Student Responsibility Center where students make the choice to be sent to if they misbehave in class. When the student first misbehaves, they are asked a list of questions. Next, they are told they have a choice to correct the behavior or go to the SRC. Their actions show the teacher their choice. If the behavior continues they are told the have made the decision to go to the SRC and must leave class. While I do not know what the behavior policy will be at the next school that I teach, I know I will follow it to the best of my ability.
